Ahh, now this is what I’ve been waiting for. Some fresh ranks to discuss! Joe Dosch (6-1) remains our champion even though three roasters have more wins than him. That’s what happens when you win a title fight. Kim Congdon (5-0, 3) is still our ladies champion! She’s also the best bet to challenge the win streak record and join Frank Castillo (7-4, 12) and Ashley Barnhill (6-1, 10) with six in a row. It’s been a while since I went over the ranking process so I’ll try to shed some light here. Win streaks are the best thing for you. Winning Roast Battle once is terribly difficult. A string victories is the best way to catapult you into the upper levels. We’ve been spoiled over the last month or so with top 30 battles happening left and right. That means inactivity in Roast Battle can push a battler down the ranks more quickly than one might deserve. The quality of the battle also helps. The Committee watches on Periscope and reads the comments. They are plugged into the performance and what happens on stage can affect where battlers land. Please feel free to correct me on records or offer your opinion on where someone should be ranked. It’s unlikely to affect the ranks at all but I enjoy talking to people! Don’t forget though, The Committee has final say. I am merely a handsome messenger.

Some quick promo before we preview! I’ll be roasting Albert Einstein this Friday at Meltdown Comics for Historical Roast! It’ll feature ranked roasters including Matthew Broussard (0-1, 100) and Dani Fernandez (1-1, 61) and great comedians Solomon Georgio and Rye Silverman. I just beat Sean Leary (1-1, 57) and I was asked to continue roasting people with less intelligence than me. #loveyousean. In order to keep the lights and gloves on over here, we’re still teaming up with Living Extracts! Follow them on IG and Twitter!

Alright. Enough selling out. Previews!

Aww. What a handsome picture, Jeff! He was bound to take one eventually. The Roastmaster is back to lead us all into battle! He returns right in time for what should be a night of fire and brimstone in the Belly Room. You can catch Jeff in the near future touring with the Oddball Comedy Tour and if you haven’t seen his latest special, go here and make up for that now.

It’s getting tough to write a preview about these two. The Sklars are probably our favorite judges around here, evidenced by their Judge of the Year win at this years’s Roasties. Here they are enjoying a recent battle with comedy legends Joe Rogan, Jeff Ross and Jerron Horton. They are great dudes and two of the funniest people in comedy. Check out all their stuff if you haven’t already.

Super pumped Theo Von is back judging! Theo is one of this writer’s favorite comedians to watch and just taped a special for Netflix at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans. If you don’t have Netflix, start dating someone with it now so you can watch it as soon as it comes out. Theo has judged many times before, including two of my battles, and dances a fine line between impressive analysis and trying to find someone to hook up with after the show. #thisishollywood

The first undercard pits Erik Wargo (0-0, UR) against Matt Cole (0-2, 124)!

image

Let’s welcome back Matt Cole! Matt’s a good buddy of mine. He produces great show in Orange County, which is his only credit. Matt, I love ya. I really hope you’re ready for this and win one for the Matts. Seriously, there are four “Matt” or “Matthew” comedians ranked 100 or worse and none have a win. It is my new favorite Roast Battle advanced stat. I’m not too familiar with Erik. He seems to do fine on Twitter and is from Orange County. OC is known to produce quality roasters but Erik’s opponent is living proof that they have a few duds as well. I swear Matt is my friend. I gotta pick Erik here.

The next undercard has Adam Feuerberg (1-0, 68) taking on Jeff Sewing (1-0, 50)!

image

Good looking battle! Not physically, of course, but these two are funny comedians and great roasters! Adam is a good friend and hosts the Karma Lounge open mic on Wednesdays. If I remember correctly, and I do, this will be the first matchup of male roasters that have won against female roasters. Adam took down Fizaa Dosani (0-1, 119) a while back. Jeff overcame Leah Kayajanian (2-2, 41), one of the participants in tonight’s Main Event. We’ll get to her greatness later but if Jeff writes for Adam like he did for Leah then he’ll get the win.

The third undercard is has Tom Goss (2-1, 46) going against Jeanne Whitney (2-0, 29)!

I’m really excited for this. These two have done a nice job of developing themselves in Roast Battle. Tom, another OC wart, started taking on anyone who lost to Olivia Grace (4-1, 7). This culminated in his eventual loss to her. He writes great roast jokes and has good stage presence. He is also human bowling ball with a sweating problem so look for him to have a backup shirt tonight. Jeanne lined herself up two tomato cans to kick over before challenging a big dog. She had fine writing and roast jokes in her two wins but it’s a different beast going against someone who can steal the crowd right back. I’m gonna pick Jeanne to get into the three win club.

And in the Main Event, Olivia Grace (4-1, 7) locks horns with Leah Kayajanian (2-2, 41)!

This should a real slobberknocker. Oh yeah. Let’s bring that back. Olivia, despite losing recently to fellow Hater Keith Carey (5-2, 6), is one of the best we have. Is she still our Ronda Rousey? Or is Ronda old news now? She’s our Carly Fiorina. #topical. Leah can be our Cris Justino! Cris is a rival fighter to Ronda. Her nickname is “Cyborg” and has accused Ronda of being on steroids. Leah is a great comedian and dominated her two wins. Her two losses came at the hands of the aforementioned Jeff Sewing and Doug Fager (3-1, 16, retired). Those battles were hot fire and she lost by the thinnest of margins in both. This could go an extra round. I have no idea who to pick. My brain says pick Olivia because because Leah is very Armenian and the crowd eats up racism like a Carey in a candy store. My gut says pick Leah because she’s so good and hasn’t battled in a while. I’m probably wrong but I’ll pick Olivia.

I am 50-33 in picks. Yea, I’m the only one keeping track. Wanna fight about it? Thanks as usual for reading and coming to the show. Listen to the podcast! Keep with the ranks! Headliner ranks too!
