Sick rooftop shot! Feelin’ a little sentimental. Mega shout out to Troy Conrad for capturing this “era of roasting” with all the pics. It’s always fun to see them posted throughout the week, all accompanied by posts about what an amazing time it was. It’s the “trial by combat” of the comedy scene. Sure, you can go through the open mic process to get noticed by a given club in this town. Or you can barnstorm Los Angeles comedy by getting verbally violent with one of your peers. Just last week, two of our roasters, Leah Kayajanian and Pat Barker, battled their way to the RiotLA Comedy Festival in one of the first big festivals of the year. Hell, you play your cards right and you might score some free medical cannabis thanks to our pals at LA Speedweed. #plugcity
I’ve purchased a few records from Boon in the last month. If he/she/it shows up in a new stunner just know daddy always takes care of his sugar.
We have a real treat of a judges panel tonight. The Roastmaster Jeff Ross is back and this time he gets the Main Event he wanted in his last visit. If you haven’t seen his latest special where he roast criminals at Brazos County Jail, fix that now. Tom Rhodes made his first appearance a couple weeks ago and he’s back for more. Tom is another comedy legend and you should give his podcast and YouTube channel a look-see. The Sklar Brothers are always funny and are a favorite to win Judge(s) of the Year at the next Roasties. Cort McCown is another favorite around the Comedy Store. Check out his pod since we’re #plugging.
In the first undercard, David Deery takes on Sarah Keller!
A good ol’ pile of noobs! David is a good joke writer and even has his own web site! They don’t just hand those out. Sarah Keller is a bit new to the scene but she’s already making an impact. You can catch her on most Saturday nights at the TJD’s “Bitch”, a show that extends to other weeknights and mexican restaurants! It’s tough to pick these gender wars lately because the dudes have been fighting back. I think I’ll pick Deery here, if only to reverse jinx Sarah into victory on purpose. Maybe I just double reversed it. I’ll just count it as a win either way.
In the second undercard, Seth Woodward faces off against Josejuan Pazos!
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Seth Woodward but this is his best angle; far away and blurry. Sasquatch-style, if you will. A real “Marla Hooch”. #nightgames. Seth is great and has had good showings in his last few battles. Josejuan Pazos is now one of the top five most ethnic names I’ve ever encountered. His Twitter presence is abominable but at least he has one up, with a photo. You virgin roasters got me snagging photos from LiveJournal and shit. The pick will be Seth.
The third undercard has Victor Martinez Jr. matched up with Gerard Peters!
Wow, Victor Martinez Jr. narrowly missed out on making that top five for out of control ethnic names. Last time he was here, I misjudged tf out of him. That soft, pudgy cover was only the beginning of a fiery book and he destroyed his opponent. Just leave the gut tucked bro.You might think Gerard Peters is just your average white guy and you’d be spot-on. Right down to claiming stake to a “black friend” in the form of an “Interracial Best Friends” gimmick that can be seen at your local open mic. I’m going with Victor for the easy win.
And in the Main Event, Timothy Groeschel is set to battle Nick Petrillo!
This should be a rocking battle. Timothy has had moments of brilliance with some bombing mixed in. He was last seen being scorched by Robin Tran and returned to the bridge he lives at in order to warn travelers of impending doom. Nick Petrillo was impressive in his first and only win and will most likely repeat that here. I expect it to go the full three rounds though, maybe only because Jeff and Tom didn’t come back a couple undercards and a two rounder.
I am 85-50 in picks and my new tourney bracket is dunzo. Yea, I’m the only one keeping track. Wanna fight about it? Thanks as usual for reading and coming to the show. Listen to the podcast! Keep with the ranks! Headliner ranks too! Follow show sponsor LA SpeedWeed on Twitter! Shout to the great Troy Conrad for the beautiful photos.
