We’ve got five great fights for you tonight featuring some old and new favorites.
Judging the mayhem tonight we have Harrison Greenbaum (Conan, America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing) and back from bumping mics all weekend, the Roastmaster General, Jeff Ross.
First up is a virgin suicide featuring the Inland Empire’s own Frank Martinez versus Gil Fierro. Frank Martinez is a seasoned comedy vet with the smile of a 6 year old waiting for the ice cream truck and the beard of the guy driving the truck. Gil Fierro gave himself the nickname “Spicy Gil” which is all you need to know about him. He looks like if Guy Fieri had a baby with Mario Lopez and that baby got all of Guy Fieri’s attributes. While this is both of these men’s first time battling in the belly room, they are no strangers to joke writing, we can anticipate some well-crafted and ruthless jokes.
Next up on the chopping block, we have Nate Welch versus Paulina Combow. This is both of their second battles ever. Nate is from New Orleans and speaks with an accent as thick as his neck. He’s coming off a solid victory over Bear Badeaux about a month ago. Paulina is an 8-year comedy vet who recently made her Roast Battle debut, where she took an L to the undefeated Ryan Nesen. She had solid jokes, a bit wordy, but solid, she’s a seasoned comic and a smart woman, so my guess is she learned from her mistakes and will be coming at Nate like the scorned woman she is. I expect a lot of white on white crime in this battle and the audience is going to devour it.
Next to be sacrificed is Deirdre Devlin versus Sarah Fatemi. Both of these ladies are thirsty AF. For battles. I mean for battles. They’ve been stepping into the ring monthly since they started battling bringing solid joke writing and a playful attitude. They have both had ups and downs, but consistently put on a good show. Sarah is coming off a win over Roy Ellison and Deirdre is riding high after her win over Tim McGorry. With both of them riding winning streaks, it’s anyone’s match tonight. It will come down to the best-written jokes as both these women are charismatic and likable.
Our last undercard of the night features fan favorite Digits taking on Louisiana’s own Bear Badeaux. Digits is a fan favorite because his antics are unpredictable and he paces around the stage like a lion they just tranquilized and are waiting for it to kick in. Digits has had some great battles and great jokes, he’s also had some hilariously epic disasters, but regardless of whether he brings coherent jokes or not, he’s always fun to watch. Bear is returning to the ring after losing to the aforementioned Nate Welch in a battle where Bear had great jokes, but Nate edged him out. Bear has also had some ups and downs, but he’s shown great improvement each time and learned from his mistakes. While Digits is a wild card, Bear is a bit more calculated. This is anyone’s match.
Our main event features the bisexual beast Kelsey Lane taking on Joe Eurell. Joe is a Roast Battle staple and icon. Battling him is a rite of passage. He’s ruthless, nearly impossible to beat and goddamn delightful to watch. He comes with expertly crafted jokes and some of the best comebacks in the game. Joe is coming off a win against the winningest battler in Roast Battle history, Omid Singh, which is an impressive notch on his belt. Kelsey is a tenacious battler who has clawed her way to greatness. She pairs sniper-like jokes with her signature disarming giggle that is both jarring and delightful – when it doesn’t come across as a nervous tic. Kelsey is coming off a win against April Lotshaw in what was Kelsey’s best battle to date. She hit April with haymaker after haymaker leaving everyone in the room stunned. She proved that she’s top ten material and a force to be reckoned with. Both of these battlers are expert entertainers and joke writers, so this could go either way, but we know for sure it’s going to be a blowout.
